Western New York has followed a national trend of seeing a decrease in bankruptcy filings in the month of September. One exception to this has been seen in the number of Chapter 13 filings which have increased possibly due to tax foreclosure auction that recently occurred.
According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the number of bankruptcy filings in Rochester and Buffalo in September were at 603. This is over a 14 percent decrease from this time a year ago.
The city of Buffalo had a 6 percent decrease with 421 cases filed and Rochester had a 29.7 percent decrease with 182 filed. The courts stated that the Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings increased in Buffalo with 136 filed in September, the most filed in one month this year.
