This weekend, a photograph of Martin Luther King Jr. was brought to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and put on display in recognition of Martin Luther King Day. The picture was taken in 1964 at a rally in Chicago, and shows the civil rights leader with the president of the University of Notre Dame.
A graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and Notre Dame, Joe Adler, worked with alumni at the university and officials in Joliet to bring the photograph to Sacred Heart for Sunday’s service.
The service celebrated the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with talks from another Joliet Catholic High School and Notre Dame graduate, a retired Will County judge who made significant contributions to service and civil rights in the area, and Rev. Raymond Lescher.
